One of the most coveted of all windmill collectables are the salesman sample windmills used as promotional and display items.
 
All windmill dealers received a vast array of general catalogs & prices lists as sales tools from the manufacturers they represented. Larger more important dealers often received from their suppliers special hand-out calendars, note pads or similar promotional material with their business name embossed to help them promote their business at the same time as promoting the line of mills they represented. Only the best dealers received, in addition to sales literature, scale-model windmills known as "salesmen's models or samples" used for display on counters, shop floors, show windows or even outside. Produced in limited quantities, these sample mills are very rare today.
